Expectations Exceeded |
Comments
I started pilates with Sarah on the advice of a physiotherapist to help with back pain caused by disintegrating discs and a tilted petris. My expectations of success after twenty years of back pain and trying various cures and treatments were low and a little vague. I thought pilates would help with muscle tone and strength and therefore help “manage” my pain.
A year on my expectations have been dramatically exceeded. I have little or no back and shoulder pain. Pilates for me has been not so much a management of pain but a cure. It has improved the quality of my day to day life in ways I would never have dared hope for. Simple things, sitting for a length of time, stretching to reach and accomplish easy tasks, bending are all now easily possible. Sleeping for a whole night without waking up with stiff lower back pain!!
All of this has not been achieved easily or quickly. It certainly would not have been achieved without the careful planning and patience of Sarah. Without Sarah I am convinced I would still be relying on nurofen. Her depth of knowledge as a pilates instructor has been invaluable to me.
I started pilates to treat physical problems but a wonderful bonus for me has been that I really enjoy the lessons and feel altogether fitter and stronger after each session. It’s a bit like having a workout followed by a sports massage. My only regret is that I didn’t take it up sooner!

Reassuring |
Comments
Whilst working with Sarah I have found her flexible and innovative approach both supportive and reassuring.
The exercise programme she introduced me to is helping me defer joint replacement surgery. Using her knowledge of the human anatomy, she has clearly explained the problem I have and the importance of corrective exercise and building supporting muscle groups.

Before I started with Sarah I was suffering excruciating back pain and very limited mobility in my neck and shoulders. I felt about 90 years of age instead of 40!! My back was so sore and stiff that I was unable to lie flat on the floor, get up of the sofa or even get upstairs without crawling. I have since been diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis as the cause of this. Having worked with Sarah for a number of months I am now vastly improved. Sarah has analysed the specific problem areas and has worked with me on a program to correct them. I now have virtually no pain and my mobility has just been confirmed as within the normal range by my consultant, who agrees that this has been greatly helped by Pilates. My posture is normal and I am significantly more flexible.
I would certainly recommend Sarah as a Personal Pilates Trainer to anyone who is suffering from back pain. The results that I have experienced have been miraculous and I feel normal again!

I have been working with Sarah now for two years after surgery on a herniated disc. My back now feels stronger, my general flexibility is good and I even have a flatter stomach!
